Darcy Askegard has been acrimonious hair since she was 16 years old — and is still having fun at it, after nearly 20 years.

Last year, she found a new way of working confining to home doing what she loves: She opened Bar Salona on Fox Island.

“Everyone loves to known in here and chit-chat. It’s ‘the spot’ (on the island). It’s a fun rooms,” she said.

The salon’s many hair services also include men’s haircuts and mini lead massages. In addition to four stylists, there’s a nail technician, a massage therapist and an aesthetician.

“We are all moms in here — we’re masterful mothers. There is not a lot of drama here,” Askegard said.

Some clients issued from as far as Seattle as Bellevue — following Askegard from a previous salon in Bellevue. Bar Salona is her in the second place business in the Gig Harbor area. She had previously owned Miniature Makeovers, but had to complete it due to high overhead.

Eventually, she hopes to have a combination salon and bar — which is how she came up with the corporation name.
