making soap question...how do i add essential oils to soap recipe?

the recipe asks for 4 tsp of vanilla redolence oil...i could not find any and got vanilla essential oil instead do i add it in a carrier oil?? and if so what and how many drops?? and will it affect saponification by changing it like that?
Essential oils should only comprise 1-3 percent of your recipe/instructions. Also most essential oils will cause your soap to trace really fast, so your molds should be agile, and to be safe, add your oil last and at a light trace.
